Sonatina I
Sonatina III (Ad usum infantis) Sonatina IV (In Diem Nativitatis Christi mcmxvii) played by PHILIP CHALLIS (piano)
This is the first of three programmes of Busoni's piano music.
Busoni is regarded by many people simply as an astonishing piano virtuoso who left a few transcriptions of Bach's organ works. Yet he was very much more. For Busoni was also a highly original composer whose true importance is only now being recognised. This series of three recitals provides an opportunity to hear some of his piano music, ranging from the miniature Sonatinas to the monumental Fantasia Contrappuntistica.

Why does Professor A get a grant while Professor B is always refused? Why do academic journals multiply and proliferate? Why does successful research make further research impossible? The answer to all these and other questions is supplied by Professor Parkinson together with advice on such subjects as committee management and the removal of the man who will not retire.
