by G. Quispel
Professor in the Faculty of Theology, University of Utrecht
The ' Gospel' (so called) of Thomas Is one of forty-nine books in ancient Coptic discovered near Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt about fourteen years ago. The publication of the text in an English version has aroused considerable interest both here and in the U.S.A. since it appears to contain a number of Sayings of Jesus unknown to Biblical scholars.
Professor Quispel, who is a member of the editorial team at work on the document, discusses its provenance and its relation to the New Testament writings.
