Although Menander's work initiates the European comedy of manners, until fifty years ago it was known only in fragments. Since then parts of several plays have been recovered, but this year has seen the publication of a virtually complete new work, The Dyskolos, or III-Natured Man.
Hugh Lloyd-Jones talks about this play, which differs considerably from the Menander we already know.
