Part 1
The Worshipful Company of Musicians commissioned Laudate Dominum to mark the Coronation last year. Despite the Latin title, the text is in English, from Isaiah and Psalms 148 and 29. The first part conveys despair and supplication (' 0 Lord, I am oppressed: undertake for me'), which eventually gives way to confidence and praise. After a big climax, the end is a quiet 'Praise the Lord.' Steady rhythms and clear-cut melodies stamp the choral part, which is accompanied by full orchestra. A.J.
