Francis Chagrin is well known both as a writer of highly effective music for films and as the founder of the Committee for the Promotion of New Music. Born in Rumania, he has lived in this country since 1936.
Stanley Bate was born in Devon, but has recently spent some time in the U.S.A. A pupil of Vaughan Williams, Hindemith, and Nadia Boulanger, he reveals in his music a nimble wit and a high standard of craftsmanship. Harold Rutland

A poem of travel by C. Day Lewis
The four parts of C. Day Lewis's poem on an Italian Journey, originally broadcast in the Third Programme last year, are to be repeated this week. This evening's programme presents the first section, ' Dialogue at the Airport,' in which the readers are Alan Wheatley, Leonard Sachs, and Basil Taylor; and the second section, ' Flight to Italy,' read by the author.
