The Analysis of a Film by Robert Flaherty
This documentary film about the impact of oil prospecting and drilling operations on a family living in a remote part of the U.S.A. is being shown in London now. It was made by Robert Flaherty , director of ' Nanook of the North,' ' Moana,' and ' Man of Aran.' Mr. Flaherty spent three months of continuous travel searching for his material before he came to the swamplands of Louisiana, home of a little-known French community, the Acadians. An Acadian boy, bis father who is a trapper, and a drilling team are the chief characters in the film. Virgil Thomson was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his musical score, the first time this award has been made for music written for a film.
The composition of the sound track presented peculiar difficulties which will be illustrated by recordings made specially for this programme
