The scheme was started in Winnetka, near Chicago, more than thirty years ago. It began as an endeavour to make the free schools of Winnetka provide the best possible education for all the children of the community. It has become an educational laboratory of international importance.
Dr. Washburne has been for many years the Superintendent of Schools in Winnetka. and is now about to become Professor of Education at Brooklyn College. New York
