This choir consists of sixty, men, whose principal employment is coal mining. Their conductor, Harry Dobbs , has acted in that capacity for the whole twenty-five years of the choir's existence. The singers have organised or taken part in a great number of concerts, and have done much to assist charitable causes, and to help their colleagues when occasion has arisen. They are the present holders of the Kingswood Eisteddfod Sydney Fry Challenge Shield, and in 1936 were winners of the Walford Challenge Cup.
A Variety programme broadcast from the stage of The Palace Theatre, Bath
The original building on the site of the present Palace Theatre was the Pavilion, which was put up in 1886. Some time afterwards it became the Lyric, and in 1903 it was renamed the Palace. The programme listeners are to hear today is the first to be broadcast since the theatre was reconstructed.
