The Exeter Musical Society in its present form dates from 1930 when the Exeter Oratorio Society, founded in 1846, joined forces with the Cathedral 
Augmented Choir which was founded in 1920. The new Society has a membership of 150 and has performed most of the great choral works. The performances are given in Exeter Cathedral and the Society is conducted by the Cathedral Organist, Dr. Alfred W. Wilcock.

Unlike most choirs in Wales, the Afan Glee Society is a non-competitive choir. It was founded by the late D. Afan Thomas , who dedicated his life to music, and who is recognised as the Schubert of Wales. There are many precious gems in the MSS. left behind by the dead poet and musician, which have still to be given to Wales, and the Afan Glee Society are doing their part in popularising his works. The choir is composed of colliers and tinplate workers who have always been responsive to the call of charity and have given hundreds of pounds, the proceeds of their concerts, to deserving causes.
