-When this church was rebuilt a hundred years ago no traces were preserved of the ancient churches which in former days stood upon the same site, but although nothing is left of the buildings the Church of St. Mary was for centuries the only church in the borough. It was in- 1828 that a Public Vestry was held to decide that the church should be rebuilt, and the foundation stone of the present building was laid in 1832. The old spire was pulled down by ropes, and the top stone with the vane afterwards formed the summit of the bell-tower of the Girls' National School. The pointed cap-stone is still there,   but the vane bearing the date 1789 has been restored to St. Mary's. 
The Bishop of Truro, the Right 
Reverend Joseph Wellington Hunkin , D.D., was consecrated in 1935, and he is the first Cornishman to become Bishop of Truro for nine hundred years.

An Appeal on behalf of THE PRINCE OF WALES' ORTHOPÆDIC HOSPITAL, 
CARDIFF, by HUBERT ALEXANDER 
This hospital is the only Orthopaedic Hospital in South Wales and Monmouthshire. With its Country Branch at Crossways, it has 132 beds and the annual expenditure for maintenance is upwards of £14,000. About two-thirds of the beds are usually occupied by children of sixteen and under, and for their benefit a special school has been established in the hospital. In the past year 561 in-patients were treated and 1,960 out-patients.
