Christian Carpenter was educated at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won the Walter Macfarren Gold Medal and the Potter Exhibition for pianoforte playing, and the Charles Mortimer Prize for composition. She has given many pianoforte recitals in London, playing groups of her own compositions, and has played at Queen's Hall Promenade Concerts and at symphony concerts in Bath and Bournemouth. Some of her own work was specially requested at a recital she gave in Rotterdam.
