' Law and Order now'
H. M. CONACHER
This talk is intended to explain what is meant by law and order and to describe the institutions by which it is maintained and safeguarded. In Scotland the administration of justice is mainly in the hands of whole-time professional judges sitting in the High Court in Edinburgh (or the Circuit Courts for criminal cases) or in the Sheriff Court 'in the County. The ' unpaid ' Justice of the Peace plays a smaller part in Scotland than in England.

Among the cultural movements in Scotland since the War none is more important than the musical festival competitions. These festivals have helped to raise not only the standard of individual performance, but also the appreciation of good music by the public. The Scottish Association for the Speaking of Verse is a separate body/but its aims are similar to those of the festival in the different medium. To-night listeners will hear some of the prize winners sing, play and speak
