Among the cultural movements in Scotland since the War none is more important than the musical festival competitions. These festivals have helped to raise not only the standard of individual performance, but also the appreciation of good music by the public. The Scottish Association for the Speaking of Verse is a separate body/but its aims are similar to those of the festival in the different medium.
