THE EMPRESS THEATRE,
GLASGOW
The Empress was opened on August 4, 1913, as a first-class vaudeville hall. Unfortunately, it arrived before its time and was not a success. During the War it was leased and served a mixed entertainment of pictures and short variety turns. In 1920 a great and definitely successful effort was made to win over a cinema audience to variety. How successful the Empress has been may be judged by those who turn up late on the off-hand chance of getting a seat. ' House Full' notices have to be put up nearly every night throughout the year.
