A serial version for broadcasting of Crosbie Garstin 's trilogy ' The Penhales', read by Geoffrey Tandy
When Ortho Penhale ran away from school he went to the Gypsy Hernes , and he travelled about the country with them until he'd had enough of his first dose of a really hard life. Then he returned home. Here he started farming in real earnest, but a bad year ruining their crops, the tin mine with their dividends closing down, and his mother's debts, all made him look for a quicker way of making money. Thus he joined the Hernes again to trade horses. But once more he was unlucky.
In this instalment he is back at
Bosula, and finds another way of making a living-smuggling.

The Heralds of Swing and Three of a Kind
The pieces collected by Eddie Pola and sewn together by Roy Speer
Eddie Pola has been broadcasting in England since 1933, when he introduced his 'America Calling' series. In 1936 Pola broadcast 'Twisted Tunes', a show in which letters from listeners were invited for the first time. He has recently been broadcasting in 'Lucky Dip'.
Phyllis Robins, as well as being able to sing almost every type of song, is an extremely witty comedienne, and in 'Crazy Quilt' she plays the part of the 'dumb' girl-friend who asks silly questions.
The Heralds of Swing were all at one time with Ambrose's band, while in 'Three of a Kind' Phyllis Robins is joined by Alice Mann and Betty Dale, both of whom sing with well-known dance bands.
An amusing feature of 'Crazy Quilt' is 'Quiz', in which selected experts are put through their paces with 'teasers' by Eddie Pola.
