This programme about Poole has been specially prepared for broadcasting. The history of the Borough of Poole goes back far beyond the time of written chronicles, and it is recorded that a portion of the navy of Alfred the Great was built in its harbour. In all the struggles between foreign invaders and in revolutions at home, Poole was an important link with the Continent. The programme gives a rapid survey of its history up to the present day.
