Until he was twenty years of age, Ceredig Jones worked on his father's farm, and spent all his leisure time studying music with the village schoolmaster. After several successes at Eisteddfodau he entered the Royal Academy of Music, and in two years he gained the L.R.A.M. Diploma and the Academy's Bronze and Silver Medals. One of his greatest successes in his native country was his rendering of the bass part in Messiah, in Neath in August, 1934.

Most of the chamber music of Schumann's later period shows unmistakable traces of the weariness which was falling on his spirit as a result of successive attacks of mental depression and bodily illness. But the Trio in D minor is far less affected by any such weakness than his other music composed in those last years, and, though a restlessness of spirit can easily be heard in it, the music has its moments of self-confident energy too.

Herman Darewski and his 
New Melody Rhythm Band

This is the third broadcast in the series from the BBC Ballroom, and the popular conductor to be starred tonight is that great personality, Herman Darewski , fresh from yet another triumphant season at Bridlington, where this summer a million people paid for admission to the Spa Royal Hall. He has given one broadcast already since his return, the occasion being when he reintroduced his New Rhythm Band to the South, and broadcast from a London studio on October 6. This orchestra made its debut on the air in April, went with him to Bridlington, and broadcast from there in May. They played with him there during the season and will be incorporated in the New Melody Rhythm Band he presents tonight. 
Darewski, broadcasting for the first time from the already famous BBC Ballroom (will listeners please note that they cannot be allotted tickets just yet ?) has planned a new device whereby those dancing in their homes, with the radio on, may find, to their surprise, that they hear themselves dancing. He hopes that as many listeners as possible will dance tonight. Listeners will hear an ' actuality ' programme-a band of seventeen, announcements, requests for particular dances, the real thing. Darewski is very anxious for listeners, whether they are dancing or no, to write and tell him how the broadcast comes over.

In tonight's broadcast from this perennially popular Variety theatre, listeners are likely to hear, among other fine acts appearing at the Grand, Doncaster, this week, Castelli (Harry) and his Gypsy Accordion Band, Mills and Fred, comedy act, Rhys and Elsie, vocalists and a piano, and Peter Raynor, ventriloquist and mimic.
