Letters pathetic, letters amusing, letters ceremonial, letters intimateâsurviving through the centuries. They have been found in this collection and the other, most of the research having been done by Ivor Vinogradov, an authority on matters of history, who gave two broadcast talks last year. Few who listen can fail to feel the irony of a letter of devotion from Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn, or the pathos of one of terror from her to him when, two years later, she was a 'doleful prisoner in the Tower'.
