Edric Cundell began his career as r.n orchestral horn player, in which capacity he played at Covent Garden under Nikisch in 1912. Mr. Cundell formed his Chamber Orchestra in February last year and after three months' intensive rehearsal the orchestra gave its first broadcast in June. There are twenty members, all of whom are young and keen players and among the personnel are several well-known soloists who are frequently heard over the air : Frederick Grinke (principal violin), Florence Hooton ('cello), and Pauline Jules (clarinet). Mr. Cundell specialises in programmes of classical music that is rarely heard and contemporary music specially written for chamber orchestra. 
There is no need to remind listeners that Mr. Cundell is himself a distinguished composer, having written a string quartet that won the first prize in The Daily Telegraph Chamber Music Competition, two tone poems, a symphony, and a symphonic poem ' Serbia ' which has been performed at the Proms.
