The first thirty years of this century were explosive in Russian poetrv. Influences from the West, reaction against the literary establishment, and political turbulence produced several new schools of writing.
This programme illustrates the work of some of the poets whose influence is still felt in Russia today. It is selective because some of the best poems defy translation, but most of the outstanding poets are represented, and by translators who have succeeded in re-creating the poems in English.
