Electricity generation today isa devious process involving steam raising, the use of the steam to produce mechanical energy in a turbine and the use of that energy to rotate the alternator. And in the process two-thirds of the initial energy is lost. Much would be gained if electricity could he produced directly from fuel and some of the ways in which this might be done are described by the speaker.
