The Nobel Prize for Chemistry was recently awarded to the American scientist Professor Willard Libby for his work in pioneering radiocarbon dating. Dr. Willis explains how the technique is being applied to provide a time-scale for geological, archaeological, and climatological problems in the British Isles.
