Deputy Director of Fishery Research
Fisheries Laboratory, Lowestoft
Man's utilisation of living raw material usually passes through three phases-exploration, conservation, and cultivation. His sea fisheries are still for the most part in the first phase. The speaker outlines ways in which fishery science is promoting the development of the later phases and speculates on some ways in which the cultivation of marine fish resources might eventually be achieved.
