Church Design Group Exhibition: a recently formed group of churchmen and craftsmen have organised an exhibition of contemporary church furnishings, to be opened at Reading by the Bishop of Coventry on April 27. The group is setting up a permanent centre at Play Hatch, near Reading. Laurence King reports on the exhibition

2-Flat Shore by Gordon Newell
Professor Newell explores the Whitstable shore with Joseph Trenaman. Here the sea uncovers 600 yards of clay, sand, and stones between high and low tides. Four distinct zones, each with its own animals and plants, are found. The clay and sand lower down the shore support a rich burrowing fauna.
