' Martinique a Month Ago '
CLIFFORD COLLINSON
Children, both those who may be at home and those who may be at school, will be interested to hear this talk by Clifford Collinson , tried favourite among School Broadcasts travel talkers, who has just returned from a visit to the West Indies. He will talk about the French island of Martinique (lying off the Spanish Main), which has been fought over by British and French time and again. Sugar is grown there all the year round, and you may see on one side of a road the canes being cut and harvested and on the other side young shoots just sprouting. Up in the north, St. Pierre lies, a black ruin of a village that was swept out of existence by the great eruption of Mont Pele in the year of King Edward VII's Coronation. And you will hear about ' H.M.S. Diamond ' -not a ship, but a lonely rock far out at sea. Once upon a time the crew of H.M.S. Diamond hauled the ship's cannon up its slopes and bombarded the enemy. The islet is known by no other name to this day.

Geraldo won fame for his non-stop music when he broadcast his first programme of ' Non-Stop Dance Music ' in 1934. In this fifth edition of ' Dancing Through ' he is trying to beat his record of 152 tunes which he played in the last (in December, 1935), and he will probably succeed. The vocalists are all well-known broadcasters.
Monte Rey , who has broadcast so often with Geraldo himself, Lily Morris of ' Music-Hall ' fame, Anne Ziegler , associated with radio musical comedy and operetta, and Wilfrid Thomas and Eve Becke , who were both so often with the ' Air-do-Wells '. At the organ is the brilliant organist who succeeded Reginald Foort at the Paramount, Tottenham Court Road, Al Bollington , who gave a broadcast on the BBC Theatre Organ on Christmas Eve.

Myra Hess is one of the few British pianists who have secured an international reputation and she is now recognised in America and on the Continent as one of the foremost pianists in the world.
Miss Hess studied first at the Guildhall School of Music and later at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won a scholarship, under Tobias Matthay. She made her London debut in 1907 at Queen's Hall, where she played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, in G, under Sir Thomas Beecham. Since that time Miss Hess has appeared continually before the British public as a soloist in chamber music.
Her repertoire is wide and her interests catholic. One can safely say that there is hardly a great composer, from Scarlatti to Brahms, of whose keyboard music she is not an equally great interpreter.
