This term these interesting talks will deal with the simpler communities in North and South America. Today Mr. J. Duval Rice is to describe the life and customs of the tribes that inhabit the dense forests of the Amazon valley. They live by fishing and hunting, for little or no cultivation is possible where impenetrable jungle creeps down to the water's edge.
There are some, such as the Tembé tribe, who have made contact with civilization; there are others, such as their neighbours, the Timbiras, who shun all contact with the outer world, and are dying out in consequence.

Those who wish to hear the dawn chorus of birds at its best should go before daybreak to some wooded spot and wait in the cold and silence while night draws to an end. Then, as dawn comes, one after another, birds begin to call and sing as if to greet the coming day ; and as the light increases, their voices mingle in one great chorus, the dawn chorus of birds.
Which bird begins it ? The skylark is very often the first of the day singers, though the restless peewit may call long before. Later come the black-birds and thrushes, the mainstays in the mingling of voices. Without their help much of the effect would be lost.
In the evening the chorus is repeated as the light wanes, but the thrill is not the same. It is the song to a dying-day.....
Mr. Noble Rollin devotes his life to the study of birds at his bird research station in Northumberland, and Schools will remember the two talks he gave last term, ' Feathers ' and ' Young Birds '.

Man inherits strong tendencies to behave in specific ways. His instincts are modified by thought, but remain powerfully operative. They are expressed not only directly, but in many indirect ways. Pugnacity, for example, can express itself in games and in propaganda. Curiosity is the root of science.
The instincts vary very little from generation to generation, but the mode of expression can vary a great deal. We are free, within wide limits, to alter human behaviour.
Such is the synopsis of the second of Dr. H. A. Mess 's six talks in which he is examining some of the social factors influencing our conduct.

This is the eighth edition of this popular concert party, which may be said to be home-grown. Clever artists, team work, and originality of material have combined to make it one of the most likeable of the regular broadcasts.
It was first produced in July last year, and Claude Gardner, Effie Atherton, and Ronald Hill have never missed a show. Marion Dawson, appearing tonight for the first time as a member of the regular team, broadcast with them once before as a guest artist. She is a very popular North Country comedienne.
Many of the new songs that have been given have afterwards been published and have become big successes. Much of the material has been selected from the abundance sent in. Tonight there will be three or four new sketches.
