The first of three broadcast celebrations of the centenary of the death of Wilberforce and the emancipation of slaves within the British Empire. William Wilberforce was born in Hull, and as a member first for that city and later for Yorkshire he conducted his forty-six years' Parliamentary campaign for the abolition of slavery and emancipation of slaves in British territory.
