Mr. DESMOND MACCARTHY : Life Stories of Ordinary Men-Dickens'
The fact that 4,239 new novels were published in 1931 should suffice to draw listeners to Mr. MacCarthy for reintroduction to master-pieces that have stood the test of time, and for guidance in the wilderness of modern writing. ' David Copperfiel (l,' Dickens' own favourite and most popular novel, serves as the peg for consideration of the cradlo to grave realism ' that is so largely responsible for the spate.

(See, top of page)
A romantic comedy with music, with a straightforward plot of the 'dream come true ' variety. The wonderful week-end of the heroine is the prelude to what is presumably a wonderful wedding and married life, but one never knows in romantic comedy. What is certain is light-hearted entertainment, from a witty book and score to match by a composer new to the B.B.C. staff, but not to programmes. Curtain !

Taken from a short story by DON MARQUIS
An intense little thriller, freely adapted from an Amoriean short story by the producer, built round the nervous crisis of a nerve specialist.
In ' the other room,' ingeniously suggested by an atmospheric production device, he hears and sees his ' other self,' giving voice to the subterranean meanness and selfishness of his nature. Ho protests passionately, but the vision persists and insanity threatens. Nervous natures advised to try the Regional programme.
