THE Overture reminds us of tho sombre side of the story of Don Juan. Its slow
Introduction utilizes themes associated in the Opera with the man whom Don Juan has murdered and the statue which comes to life and drags the murderer down to eternal punishment.
Solemn chords on Woodwind and Brass are heard above eerie String passages. Sudden commanding interjections, followed by soft tip-toeings, create an atmosphere of strangeness and fear.
The main body of the Overture (a quick movement) takes us back to the Don's days of unalloyed delight in amorous adventure.
