Frédéric d'Erlanger, though now practically a Londoner, was born in Paris. He was for many years a Director of Covent Garden Theatre, and the artistic life of London has always claimed a large share of his many activities.
He has composed a considerable number of works, both great and small, from operas to songs for voice and piano. Listeners have already heard some chamber music, and in patticular his opera Tess, the text of which is founded on Hardy's novel. This opera was first performed at Covent Garden Theatre in 1909, and had its first broadcast in 1930. His Requiem Mass was broadcast in 1931 and again in 1932.
