WILLIAM GRANT
It is probably in July that the gardener realises how abundantly he is being rewarded for his services. The flower beds blaze with colour and it is possible to tell, always excepting some cataclysm of nature, how the fruit crop is likely to turn out. In view of these rewards and the apparent certainty of others to come, the gardener may be inclined to take things easy. This is a great mistake because blooms and fruit can only be brought to perfection by constant attention. July also is a holiday month for many people and unless arrangements are made for looking after the garden during these weeks of absence, the devoted garden lover may return to something more in the nature of a jungle than a garden.
