In 1953, four hundred reinforcements for the French Foreign Legion fighting in Indo-China were aboard a transport heading eastwards. Two of them, Ensio Tiira , a Finn, and Fred Ericsson , a Swede, decided to desert as the ship passed close to the Isle of Sumatra. This is the story of their fantastic adventure.
