Tarina di Pino arrived from Italy to go to school in England. Elsie quarrelled violently with Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Freeman and accused them of ruining her only chance to make Edward Fielding like her by perpetually inviting him to Virginia Lodge for meals. Peter Langley told Janet Dale that he loved her. Mrs. Carlton, Miriam's mother, told Sally that she planned to make Alec Dale a ' good business offer,' but intended to keep it secret for the moment. Mrs. Owen's health began to be a worry again, and David, who felt Gwen was going to have to bear the full burden, wrote to Jenny about it.
