Peter Langley told Janet Dale that he loved her. Mrs. Carlton, Miriam's mother, told Sally that she planned to make Alec Dale a ' good business offer,' but intended to keep it secret for the moment. Mrs. Owen's health began to be a worry again, and David, who felt Gwen was going to have to bear the full burden, wrote to Jenny about it.
