Dr. Dale was called to see old Tiffin and found that, in imitation of Monument, he had taken to his bed to avoid marrying Ermie Meadows. Dr. and Mrs. Dale spent Easter at King's Acre. Grandfather Dale upset his daughters by deciding to make a new will leaving King's Acre to Carlton, Alec's son. Mrs. Dale gave Mrs. Morgan a watch for her birthday. Trevor told Sally that he was soon to be sent to Kenya. Without telling Bob, Mrs. Dale went down to Seven Dials and looked at the outside of his new flat. She was horrified by its appearance.
