* During the absence of Douglas Burbidge caused by illness
Mr. Fulton gave < picnic luncheon for Mrs. Freeman's birthday; Fielding was greatly upset by tihe unexpected arrival of his wife, demanding arrears of maintenance. Isabel Fielding was disappointed to hear that she oould not, as she had hoped, have a foreign child to stay with Tiggy, because there were not enough children coming to go round the families chat had offered homes. Mrs, Freeman suggested to Mr. Capon chat he proposed to Miss Simmons. Mr. Fuiton told Gwen that he had arranged for Mrs. Owen to go away so that there was no need for her and David to spend their holidays in Wales; Anne Varley at the tennis dub gave Gwen the address of a hotel on the coast, which she recommended. Joan Dale arrived from King's Acre to stay with the Dales indefinitely, because she was so embarrassed by Grandfather Dale's efforts to make a match between her and his manager, Angus Moray.
