A programme for children under five

Anthony, aged four, is for the first time disgusted with his programme! 'The "Pig with a Wig," he says, is not a real story.' When this nonsense rhyme was first broadcast, Anthony's viewpoint found many supporters, for the particular programme of which it was part contained no story. Not that poems are unacceptable to our small listeners: indeed, they ask constantly for the repetition of their favourites. But for many, and particularly the older ones, the programme is not 'right' without a story. Today and tomorrow, listeners may hear both, for Julia Lang will tell the stories by Mary Soulby, about 'Tom's Red Jersey' and 'Tom's Grown-up Trousers,' as well as reading this jingle by Jean Sutcliffe.
The stories for Wednesday and Thursday, 'Pansy' by Jolia Goodey and 'The Dolly that was lost' by M. Mitchell, are to be told by Daphne Oxenford. Friday's storyteller is Dorothy Smith with 'Teddy's Pretend' by Marjorie Thorne.

Mrs. Dale, the doctor's wife, records the daily happenings in the life of her family.

Last week Maud French and Richard Fulton, both under the impression that Sally had lost all her money, visited Rose Cottage with view to buying it. Mrs. Mountford and Isabel Fielding were also discussing what they would buy from Sally, when Mrs. Dale arrived. She told them Sally had not lost her money, but had reinvested elsewhere. Jenny caused further worry by announcing she and Peter hoped to marry soon, as she had altered her mind about a long engagement. Mrs. Freeman, now companion for a fortnight to Mrs. Cardew, was having a wonderful time accompanying her to theatres and exhibitions. Maggs went to one of Mrs. Mustoe's television parties and afterwards told Mrs. Morgan he was disappointed because the pictures were not life-size.
