Mrs. Dale, the doctor's wife, records the daily happenings in the life of her family.
Last week Maud French and Richard Fulton, both under the impression that Sally had lost all her money, visited Rose Cottage with view to buying it. Mrs. Mountford and Isabel Fielding were also discussing what they would buy from Sally, when Mrs. Dale arrived. She told them Sally had not lost her money, but had reinvested elsewhere. Jenny caused further worry by announcing she and Peter hoped to marry soon, as she had altered her mind about a long engagement. Mrs. Freeman, now companion for a fortnight to Mrs. Cardew, was having a wonderful time accompanying her to theatres and exhibitions. Maggs went to one of Mrs. Mustoe's television parties and afterwards told Mrs. Morgan he was disappointed because the pictures were not life-size.
