A programme for children under five
Why) and What? are two words which are frequent sources of parental exasperation! But they are two keys to knowledge and intellectual growth, and we must therefore be pleased that these programmes for our under-fives often encourage them to ask questions and give them opportunities for adding to their store of knowledge of situations, emotions, and things. After this week's stories, all by Ruth Amsworth , some mothers may find themselves answering questions about Dutch dolls, tortoises, or fir cones, and will perhaps have to demonstrate the process of plaiting pieces of string!
We are constantly delighted by the evidence we receive of willing co-operation by busy mothers. We realise, as one mother says who has to go many times through, ' This is the way the ladies ride.' inventing more verses, too, about soldiers and sailors and other characters, that ' it becomes a bit difficult at times! ' And our sympathy goes out to those mothers whose bones are not as young as they used to be, but who ' stick it out ' in ' Ring a ring o' roses ' to the very last ' fall down '!
