Second of two astronomical talks by DR. MICHAEL HOSKIN

The discovery of the planet Neptune touched off one of the great rows in the history of science. Dr. Hoskin recounts the situation as it involved a young man, John Couch Adams , in Cambridge; the Astronomer Royal at Greenwich; an astronomer, U. J. J. Le Verrier. in Paris; and J. G. Galle of Berlin, then in charge of the greatest telescope of the time.

During the period 1954-1964 his television Zoo Quests took him to Sierra Leone, British Guiana, Bali, Java, Borneo, Komodo, Paraguay, New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, Madagascar, the Northern Territory of Australia and the Zambesi. From behind his desk as Controller of BBC-2, David Attenborough remembers some of the people, animals, and sounds he encountered during this 'time of his life.'
