Appeal on behalf of the National Society for Cancer Relief, by Barbara Kelly
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to Miss Barbara Kelly, [address removed]
It was not until the early thirties that any comprehensive attempt was made to help, in their own homes or in suitable nursing homes, poor people suffering from cancer: only too often they were discharged from hospital to homes where nursing facilities, comforts, and even nourishing food were pitifully inadequate.
Since 1931, however, the National Society for Cancer Relief has provided an ever-ready source of help, increasingly used and appreciated by doctors, almoners, and other social workers throughout Britain. Last year nearly 7,000 patients were assisted, and the demands on the Society still increase.
