In 1620 Nigel Olifaunt , Lord Glenvarloch, arrived in London to reclaim a large sum of money lent by his father to King James VI of Scotland -now James I of the United Kingdom. The young and lovely Margaret Ramsay, the daughter of one of the king's Scottish retainers, took an interest in Nigel's affairs and made it possible for him to gain access to the Palace of Whitehall. There, Lord Huntinglen, an old family friend, pleaded Nigel's case with King James and got from the king a mysterious warning that Nigel should, for his own safety, leave the city immediately.
by Robert E. Sherwood
Shortly before his election as President of the United States for the third time in 1940, Roosevelt publicly said of himself, ' I am an old campaigner, and I love a good fight.' It was during this election campaign that the American author and dramatist, Robert E. Sher wood, began the association with Roosevelt which grew into friendship and lasted until the President's death. As one of the team who worked on the drafts of Roosevelt's speeches, Mr. Sherwood had a close view of the President's methods. Tonight he gives some personal impressions of life with the ' old campaigner.'
