Aaron Copland's ' Music for Radio' was commissioned by the Columbia Broadcasting Company. The sub-title ' Saga of the Prairie ' was suggested by a listener and chosen by the composer, following a nation-wide competition held after the first performance broadcast in 1937. Carte Blanche was first produced by the Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet at the Edinburgh Festival last year. The ballet is a divertissement with no special story, though the choreography, by Walter Gore , makes use of features of the circus. Harold Rutland
