Talk by Margaret Bean
I.ast August some Turkish sponge-fishers brought up in their nets the head of a Greek bronze statue-probably a statue of Demeter of the fourth century/B.C. It is agreed by all to be among the most important artistic finds of recent years. Miss Bean and her brother, an archaeologist, were the first people, besides the villagers of Bitez, to see the fishermen's catch.
