Appeal on behalf of Toc H by the Rev. P. B. Clayton , C.H., M.C.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
Toc H (the initials of Talbot House in Army terms), inspired by the infectious enthusiasm of ' Tubby ' Clayton, came to birth in 1920 at a meeting of a few men who had discovered, in Talbot House, Poperinghe, from 1915 onwards the value of friendship and good humour in common service to others. Fellowship, service, and fairmindedness were declared the basic aims of this open-to-all Christian society, and Toc H has never swerved from these ideals. The first residential hostels, named ' Marks,' were soon opened in London and the provinces. ' Tubby ' made several tours overseas, and Toc H has spread throughout the Commonwealth. A Royal Charter was granted in 1912, the year that Toc H Women's Association was also founded. Today voluntary social service goes on throughout Great Britain in 1,000 branches, 500 women's branches, twenty hostels, as well as in branches and Services Clubs overseas.
Tonight's is the first ' Good Cause ' appeal for Toc H ever made by its Founder
