From the Royal Albert Hall, London (Tickets, from 10s. to 3s. 6d., may be obtained from the Royal Albert Hall or usual agents)
It is not known with certainty who first called Beethoven's fifth Piano Concerto ' The Emperor '; it may have been J. B. Cramer (1771-1858), who is chiefly celehrated nowadays for his pianoforte studies. In vie-w of Beethoven's outburst when he heard that Napoleon had assumed the title of Emperor, it is possible that he might have had something to say on the subject. Yet the nickname is by no means unsuitable. since the work has a majesty and grandeur unsurpassed by any other concerto. Harold Rutland
