The characters in this operetta are members of the Pack of Cards, and the action takes place in the court of the King of Diamonds, where a husband is to be chosen for his daughter, the Ten of Diamonds. Suitors include the Jack of Clubs (whom the Queen favours) and the Joker (whom the Ten favours) but the sudden arrival of the Jack of Hearts disrupts the Queen's plans for her daughter's betrothal. He sweeps the Ten off her feet and ends the story happily.
