on the 94th Psalm, played by 0. H. Peasgood (organ). From St. Mark's, North Audley Street
Reubke was a pupil of Liszt, who regarded him as a composer of unusual promise. The Sonata on Psalm 94, however, is a work of more than mere promise. It shows a ripeness and imaginative power truly remarkable in a youth barely out of his teens. It is also the forerunner of many important organ works based on a ' programme '.
The sections of the Psalm dealt with are vv. 1, 2. 3. 6, 7, 17, 19, 22, 23 of the English Prayer Book version, and the following appears to be the scheme : First section : vv. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7. Adagio : vv. 17, 19. Fugue : vv. 22, 23.
Those on the bill include Vic Oliver, Abbott and Costello, Maxine Sullivan, Babs and her Brothers, Mary Loo Williams, Rise Stevens, and Nelson Eddy. Presented by Frederick Piffard

BBC Chorus. BBC Orchestra : conductor, Sir Adrian Boult
KingDavidwas originally a ' dramatic Psalm ' written by Rene Morax. a Swiss poet, for presentation at the Jorat Art Theatre. The French conductor Ansermet suggested to Morax that he should commission Arthur Honegger to write the incidental music. This, was accordingly accomplished in a little over two months, and the first performance of King David was given on June 13. 1921. It was so successful that Honegger decided to re-score it as an oratorio or ' symphonic psalm ' for narrator, soloists, chorus, and a large orchestra. The first English performance of the new version was given by the BBC at the Albert Hall on March 17, 1927. The text is based on the Books of Samuel and Chronicles.
