Irene Kohler , who won an open scholarship at the Royal College of Music at the age of 16, has been broadcasting for some years, and was, incidentally, the only woman to take part in the BBC piano test in 1936. During this exacting ordeal she played the Ravel Toccata 50 times in 5 days.
Irene Kohler made her first London appearance in 1934 at a Promenade Concert under Sir Henry Wood. and since then has broadcast such notable works as Hindemith's ' Konzertmusik ' and, in the ' Foundations of Music series, Iberia ' of Albeniz. She studied for five years under Arthur Benjamin at the Royal College of Music, and later in Vienna under Eduard Steuermann.
