Conductor, Sir Adrian Boult After taking his degree at Oxford, Sir Adrian Boult went to Leipzig and joined the conducting class of Arthur Nikisch. In 1916 he made his debut in London conducting the L.S.O. at Queen's HalL His first notable exploit, however, was in 1919 when he conducted the Diaghilev Russian Ballet at the Alhambra at short notice. Later he became conductor of the City of Birmingham Orchestra and in 1930 joined the BBC as Director of Music. Since that time he has many outstanding achievements to his credit, notably the creating of the BBC Symphony Orchestra into one of the finest orchestras in the world.

Another new parlour game for listeners
Presented by Neil Munro
Actors v. Actresses
The idea is that each side has to act according to an adverb they have chosen. If the people whose turn it is to ask questions find their replies are bawled at them at the tops of the players' voices, it does not take a Sherlock Holmes to deduce that the word is 'loudly'. Questioners are allowed three guesses and lose points accordingly.

A feature programme compiled from material supplied by S. C. Roberts
The cast includes
D. A. Clarke-Smith ; Carleton Hobbs ; Patric Curwen ; Barbara Couper ;
Thea Holme ; Cecil Trouncer ; Laidman Browne ; Harold Scott
This programme, which has been broadcast twice before, once in 1936 and once in 1937, does not attempt to present anything approaching a life of Dr. Johnson. What it does aim to do, however, is to give listeners some idea of the character of that extraordinary man. The Doctor's sayings have lost none of their piquancy or aptness with the passing of years, and you will have the opportunity of hearing a wide selection of these in the variety of scenes to be broadcast.
