Programme arranged by Robert Speaight , and introduced by Allan Aynesworth. Produced by John Burrell. (Special )
This is the best known of Oscar Wilde's comedies. From the moment of its first production at the St. James's Theatre in 1895, the sustained wit of its dialogue and situations has made it one of the acknowledged masterpieces of the English theatre.
This programme has been arranged round the personalities of Irene Vanbrugh and Allan Aynesworth , who were both in the original production. They will speak of that famous ' first night ' when Allan Aynesworth was Algy and Dame Irene played Gwendolen.
